This is a picture of Finn’s first Christmas with us. I got him a different toy, but apparently he preferred Charlie’s Gingerbread man. Thankfully, Charlie doesn’t mind sharing!

My mom’s dog Ginger is going CRAZY knowing that there are cats in the house and she can’t get to them! (Our one worry about combining households was Ginger’s fondness for charging after cats. Hopper and Emma Kate are limited to two rooms that Ginger is not allowed in. We’re hoping this works!)

My mom’s other dog, Peanut, on the other hand couldn’t care less about the cats (she was one of my fosters after all), but she would LOVE to get to their food!

Charlie seems to be doing OK with his separation anxiety. Of course, this is the third time in his lifetime that we’ve lived here, so it’s really not “new” to him. Though he agrees with me that it’s just not the same without his grandpa around. : (

And of course, Bailey doing what he does best!

Emma Kate is a little put off that she doesn’t have full run of the house and has made two escapes. But thankfully she has gone back into her “rooms” without too much fuss.

I got to meet lots of our new hound faces looking for their forever homes. You KNOW I took my camera and MUST share pictures with you!

Biscuit and Billy (you may remember Billy as Wildcard, the blind beagle from Greenville, SC!)

Lulu is a senior beagle we got a call about from a local animal control facility. She was sick and “didn’t have long.” We never like to hear of beagles (or any animals, for that matter) dying in shelters, but we knew we could make sure this girl had lovin’ during her last days. BUT Lulu was having none of that hospice stuff! She was checked out by our vets, diagnosed with pneumonia (I swear I didn’t give it to her!), and treated. NOW, she’s a fun loving girl who is ready for adoption!!

Our new home is still overwhelmed by boxes. The dogs are having a harder time adjusting than the cats. I’m struggling with energy. But, there are many good things happening … first, the weather in Atlanta this past weekend was glorious! I was able to open the windows while I worked to unpack some more boxes, and I think the cats enjoyed it almost as much as I did. I’m also enjoying the additional time I get to spend with my mom. Since my dad died, we’ve been rushing here and there, making plans, calling family, figuring out how to work the power tools, etc. We’re now able to take some time to watch our favorite shows on HGTV and have dinner together. I don’t like being unsettled, and while the boxes are still around, I’ll feel the pressure and unease. But I know we’re getting there. These last four months have been full of changes and emotional spirals. We’ve made it through the hardest part, and we will make it through tomorrow.

But we are still living amongst boxes!! Hopefully we’ll have some order soon!

While I’ve been packing for our upcoming move, the fur kids have been reacting in a variety of ways. Hopper and Charlie are filled with anxiety and clinging to me at all hours.

These two have been sleeping and pretty much acting as usual. I’m still trying to get them to help me pack, to no avail.

Emma Kate has been into EVERYTHING! She’s acting like a kitten more than ever … and of course, driving me up a wall. Hopefully we will all survive the next few days! I’ll be back after the move!

We actually had sunshine today after weeks and weeks of rain. Unfortunately, we are still in packing mode, so the boys didn’t get to enjoy it much. Hopefully, they will realize that all these boxes were well worth it when they see that the “new” place has a fenced-in backyard and three-tier deck!

I’m working on getting this sweet boy out of a shelter. He’s blind and scared, but hopefully he’ll be in a loving foster home soon! Please keep your fingers crossed for Wildcard. I will keep you updated!

PACK! Yes, folks, we are packing all weekend in anticipation of our move at the end of the month. I’ve decided to move back to my parents’ house to help my mom out. Since my dad died, it’s just too much house for her to have to maintain, while working a full-time job. I will take lots of pictures as we move and show you the “new” place. The beagle boys have lived at my parents’ house before when I was in graduate school and when I was unemployed. They love it there, but Finn and the cats haven’t been there for more than just visits. (Yes, during a particularly rough storm last year, I took the cats over there and set them up in the bathroom!)

Of course, when I get the boxes out, Charlie’s separation anxiety amps up. I’ll give you a full report on how he handles the chaos of moving and give you some tips on helping your own dogs adjust. I have never moved cats before, so I have solicited some advice from veteran cat owners and hopefully am prepared to make the transition as smooth as possible for Emma Kate and Hopper. Now … to the boxes!
