Happy Birthday to my Hoppity-Bop!

When I first met Hopper, he was just about 3 days old. His litter was found scattered across a woman’s front yard. No momma in sight. She took them to a vet who worked closely with Atlanta Pet Rescue. Hopper and his brothers and sisters came to the rescue for the very necessary and constant bottle feeding and care. Sadly, only Hopper and one other brother survived. Hopper was then known as Oreo, and I remember saying that whomever adopted him needed to be ready for one CRAZY cat. He was ALL OVER the place. Famous last words, right?!

This was me trying to take pictures of him. Here I am holding the young Hopper/Oreo while he is trying to crawl up my arm.

So, how did Oreo become Hopper? That dreaded word: Foster! I offered to foster Hopper/Oreo because he was having some intestinal issues that weren’t resolving themselves at the shelter. I had just adopted Emma Kate a few months early and had already fostered kittens for the rescue, so I felt prepared and equipped.

He quickly made himself comfortable, here is one of the dogs’ crates, and loved up on the pups. Emma Kate wasn’t quite sure and hissed at him for the first few days.

EK finally accepted him and that’s all she wrote. I knew I had to keep him — even though he was and is CRAZY. But I like a little crazy in my life, right?!

I renamed him Hopper basically because he would hop on the beagles’ backs when they were walking by his hiding place. They didn’t love it; I thought it was hilarious!

Hopper definitely keeps life entertaining! He’s always into something, loves to snuggle, and is the only one I can’t get to sleep in. Even at two, he still acts as crazy as he was at 3 months. Here are some more of my favorite Hopper pictures!

Happy Birthday, Hopper Bopper!

A Workman in Our Midst

We’re having some work done in the basement this week, so the dogs have been at high alert for all the noise downstairs! The workman is using the basement door to enter and exit, which means the backyard fence gate is open while he is here. No outside doggie time! The dogs seemed very put-out by this!

Finn: “What do you MEAN I can’t go outside?”

Ginger: “Let me see the stranger. I want to bark at him!”

Charlie: “MA! I gotta go … ya’know … to the little boy’s room!”

Bailey: “What? I can’t go out? That’s cool …”

Peanut: “OK, so I promise not to go out of the open gate … BUT I REALLY need to guard my driveway!! OUT, please!”

The cats were constantly jumping because the work was directly under them. Of course, Emma Kate refused to be photographed.

A Beagle, a Bear, and a New Family!

As promised, here is more of Atlanta Beagle Rescue‘s fun at the East Atlanta Earth Day Market this weekend:

Biscuit hanging out with his foster mom!

Noodle getting some love!

Biscuit gets to spend time with the Beer Bear!

Sophia enjoying her time with the volunteers!

And here’s the Happy Tail (yes, I mean “Tail” not “Tale”!): Hunter said goodbye to his foster mom before heading off with his forever family! Yes, this sweet boy got adopted!

Update on Miss Ellie

You may remember my previous post about Ellie’s, a beagle/bassett mix currently available for adoption at Atlanta Beagle Rescue, brush with death. Well, to say Ellie has recovered is a vast understatement. I got to spend sometime with her this weekend at the East Atlanta Earth Day Market.

Ellie is a FABulous dog. She loves everyone, is great with kids (even babies), dogs, and cats, and is a snuggle-bunny. She’s also deaf, but you can’t really tell and it doesn’t slow her down or hinder her zest for life AT ALL! For more information about adopting Ellie, please visit Atlanta Beagle Rescue.

And come back tomorrow for more of the East Atlanta Earth Day Market, including a bear & a beagle and a happy tail ending!

Weekend Recap

Bunny went to her new home. She was adopted by a friend of mine from high school and now has a Pomeranian sister and her very own cat. Very happy for this sweet, traffic-dodging girl!

My dogs spent a lot of time outside enjoying the incredible weather. Even Bailey went off the deck willingly and stayed out in the yard a good bit!

They also kept watch over the driveway and sounded the alarm when anyone got within a mile!

The humans washed the crates and the dog beds, though Peanut felt that was unnecessary. I pointed out to her that we didn’t wash the dogs, so she should be happy!

It’s Been A Week

It’s been a long, tiring week … even for my Hopper boy! But we’re looking forward to a great weekend, which will include taking Bunny to her new home and hanging out with friends and family (2-legged & 4-legged!). Hope you have a restful, relaxing weekend as well!

No News

Still no news on the Find Bunny’s Owner Hunt. She’s a really sweet girl and the perfect little house guest, except for her insistence on jumping over any and all baby gates blocking her way. I’ve held onto her for 8 days now, and it’s time to think about her future … instead of trying to figure out her past. I have a friend who is very interested in meeting her and making her a part of her family. She’ll meet her this weekend. Keep your fingers and paws crossed for Bunny. She deserves the best!

ADOPT ME: Bloomin’ Beagles!

It’s that time of year again. Flowers are blooming and so are beagles in need of new homes! Yes, there IS a beagle season. Typically when hunting season is underway, there are more and more beagles in county shelters needing rescue. Sometimes they don’t hunt and their owners toss them out. Sometimes they get lost from the hunting pack and find themselves as strays. Sometimes breeders decide it’s time to get rid of the old. All reasons that make me crazy … but also reasons why I volunteer with Atlanta Beagle Rescue. ‘Cause I love me some beagles and I want to make sure our beagles in Atlanta get that chance they deserve at a happy, loving forever home.

On that note, here are some of ABR‘s current adoptable beagles!
